| 7 | 7 | | relating to the county courts at law in Bexar County. |

| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Sections 25.0172(c), (c-1), (j), (v), and (w), |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Government Code, are amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (c) Any of the county courts at law may hear [The County |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Courts at Law Nos. 4, 6, 11, and 12 shall give preference to] |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | criminal cases and appeals de novo from the municipal and justice |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | courts. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (c-1) The County Courts [Court] at Law Nos. 7 and [No.] 13 of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Bexar County, Texas, shall give preference to cases prosecuted |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | under: |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (1) Section 22.01, Penal Code, in which the victim is a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | person whose relationship to or association with the defendant is |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | described by Chapter 71, Family Code; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (2) Section 25.07 or 25.072, Penal Code. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (j) The judge of a county court at law shall be paid as |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | provided by Section 25.0005 [an annual salary in an amount not less |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | than $25,000 and not more than the total annual salary, including |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | supplements, paid a district judge in the county]. The |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | compensation shall be paid out of the county's general fund or |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | officers' salary fund. [The commissioners court shall consider the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | financial condition of the county and the duties and needs of the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | county court at law judges in setting the salaries of the judges.] |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Before raising a salary the commissioners court must publish notice |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | containing information of the salaries affected and the amount of |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the proposed raise in a newspaper of general circulation in the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | county. The commissioners court may raise the salaries of the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | county court at law judges only after 10 days' notice and only at a |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | regular meeting of the commissioners court. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | (v) Section 25.0006 [25.0006(a)] does not apply to a county |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | court at law in [County Courts at Law Nos. 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | 13, 14, and 15 of] Bexar County. [Section 25.0006(b) does not apply |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | to County Courts at Law Nos. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | and 15 of Bexar County.] |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | (w) This section does not apply to the statutory probate |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | courts [County Court at Law No. 1 and Probate Court]. |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | SECTION 2. Sections 25.0172(a), (b), and (i), Government |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | Code, are repealed. |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
