A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a landlord's duty to provide a copy of a lease to
certain residential tenants.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 92.024(b), Property Code, is amended to
read as follows:
(b) Not [If more than one tenant is a party to the lease,
not] later than the third business day after the date a landlord
receives a written request for a copy of a lease and the payment of a
$10 fee from a tenant [who has not received a copy of the lease under
Subsection (a)], the landlord shall provide one complete copy of
the lease to the requesting tenant.
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
to a lease that is entered into or renewed on or after the effective
date of this Act. A lease that is entered into or renewed before the
effective date of this Act is governed by the law as it existed
immediately before the effective date of this Act, and that law is
continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect January 1, 2016
