9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Title 12, Business & Commerce Code, is amended by | |
11 | 11 | adding Chapter 606 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | CHAPTER 606. PRIVATE BUSINESS OWNER'S CHOICE TO PROVIDE GOODS OR | |
13 | 13 | SERVICES | |
14 | 14 | Sec. 606.001. RIGHT TO REFUSE TO PROVIDE GOODS OR SERVICES. | |
15 | 15 | (a) A private business owner may refuse to provide goods or services | |
16 | 16 | to any person based on a sincerely held religious belief or on | |
17 | 17 | conscientious grounds. | |
18 | 18 | (b) A private business owner may not: | |
19 | 19 | (1) be compelled to provide goods or services in | |
20 | 20 | violation of that business owner's sincerely held religious or | |
21 | 21 | personal belief; or | |
22 | 22 | (2) be held liable for refusing to provide goods or | |
23 | 23 | services to any person based on a sincerely held religious belief or | |
24 | 24 | on conscientious grounds. | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
