| 10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Section 6.204, Family Code, is amended by adding | |
| 12 | 12 | Subsection (e) to read as follows: | |
| 13 | 13 | (e) Section 32, Article I, Texas Constitution, and | |
| 14 | 14 | Subsections (b) and (c) of this section apply regardless of whether | |
| 15 | 15 | a federal court ruling or other federal law provides that a | |
| 16 | 16 | prohibition against the creation or recognition of a same-sex | |
| 17 | 17 | marriage or a civil union is not permitted under the United States | |
| 18 | 18 | Constitution. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 20 | 20 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 21 | 21 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 22 | 22 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 23 | 23 | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
