99 relating to making a voluntary contribution to the Special Olympics
1010 Texas fund when registering a motor vehicle or renewing a motor
1111 vehicle registration.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 502, Transportation Code,
1414 is amended by adding Section 502.413 to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 502.413. VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION TO SPECIAL OLYMPICS
1616 TEXAS FUND. (a) When a person registers or renews the registration
1717 of a motor vehicle under this chapter, the person may contribute any
1818 amount to the Special Olympics Texas fund under Subsection (f).
1919 (b) The department shall provide, in a conspicuous manner,
2020 an opportunity to contribute to the Special Olympics Texas fund in
2121 any registration renewal system used by the department.
2222 (c) If a person makes a contribution under this section and
2323 does not pay the full amount of a registration fee, the county
2424 assessor-collector may credit all or a portion of the contribution
2525 to the person's registration fee.
2626 (d) The county assessor-collector shall send any
2727 contribution made under this section to the comptroller for deposit
2828 to the Special Olympics Texas fund before the 31st day after the
2929 date the contribution is made.
3030 (e) The department shall consult with the Department of
3131 Aging and Disability Services in performing the department's duties
3232 under this section.
3333 (f) The Special Olympics Texas fund is created as a trust
3434 fund outside the state treasury to be held by the comptroller and
3535 administered by the Department of Aging and Disability Services as
3636 trustee on behalf of Special Olympics Texas. The fund is composed of
3737 money deposited to the credit of the fund under this section. Money
3838 in the fund shall be disbursed at least monthly, without
3939 appropriation, to Special Olympics Texas to provide training and
4040 athletic competitions for persons with mental illness and
4141 intellectual disabilities.
4242 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2016.
