| 7 | 7 | | relating to measures to ensure certain adopted students are |

| 8 | 8 | | informed regarding their eligibility for tuition and fee exemptions |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | at certain institutions of higher education. |

| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 51.762, Education Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | adding Subsection (j) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (j) The board shall ensure that each application form |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | adopted under this section solicits from an applicant the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | information required for an institution of higher education to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | determine whether the applicant is eligible for an exemption from |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | tuition and fees under Section 54.367 for adopted students formerly |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | in foster or other residential care. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | SECTION 2. Section 54.367, Education Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (c) The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board by rule |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | shall require each institution of higher education to send |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | information about the tuition and fee exemption under this section |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to each applicant who is determined to be eligible for the exemption |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | by information collected on the applicant's application for |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | admission. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | SECTION 3. The changes in law made by this Act to Sections |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 51.762 and 54.367, Education Code, apply beginning with |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | applications for admission to institutions of higher education for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the 2016-2017 academic year. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
