66 AN ACT
77 relating to the authorization of certain industry professionals to
88 provide instruction in public schools.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 21.0488 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 21.0488. CERTIFICATION FOR CERTAIN INDUSTRY
1313 PROFESSIONALS. (a) To ensure a sufficient number of qualified
1414 industry professionals authorized to provide instruction relating
1515 to curriculum required for an endorsement under Section
1616 28.025(c-1), the board shall propose rules providing for the
1717 expedited certification of persons with appropriate industry
1818 credentials.
1919 (b) The board's rules must permit a person to obtain
2020 certification under this section without completing an educator
2121 preparation program or performing successfully on a generally
2222 applicable certification examination.
2323 (c) A certificate issued under this section may not
2424 authorize the person to provide instruction to students in a
2525 subject area other than the area in which the person holds
2626 appropriate industry credentials.
2727 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2828 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2929 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3030 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3131 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
