| 8 | 8 | | provide instruction in public schools. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 21.0488 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 21.0488. CERTIFICATION FOR CERTAIN INDUSTRY |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | PROFESSIONALS. (a) To ensure a sufficient number of qualified |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | industry professionals authorized to provide instruction relating |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to curriculum required for an endorsement under Section |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 28.025(c-1), the board shall propose rules providing for the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | expedited certification of persons with appropriate industry |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | credentials. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (b) The board's rules must permit a person to obtain |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | certification under this section without completing an educator |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | preparation program or performing successfully on a generally |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | applicable certification examination. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (c) A certificate issued under this section may not |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | authorize the person to provide instruction to students in a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | subject area other than the area in which the person holds |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | appropriate industry credentials. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
