| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 143.117, Local Government Code, is |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | amended by adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (b-1) Not later than the 180th day after the date the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | department discovers or becomes aware of the civil service rule |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | violation for which a fire fighter is suspended, notice of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | suspension of the fire fighter must be: |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (1) personally delivered to the fire fighter; or |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (2) sent by certified mail, return receipt requested, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | to the last home address provided by the fire fighter. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | to a suspension of a firefighter that occurs on or after the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | effective date of this Act. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
