66 AN ACT
77 relating to an exemption for attorneys from athlete agent
88 registration.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 2051.101, Occupations Code, is amended
1111 by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (b-1) to read as
1212 follows:
1313 (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b) or (b-1), an
1414 individual may not act as an athlete agent in this state or
1515 represent that the individual is an athlete agent in this state
1616 unless the individual holds a certificate of registration under
1717 this chapter as:
1818 (1) a professional athlete agent; or
1919 (2) a limited athlete agent.
2020 (b-1) An attorney licensed in this state is not required to
2121 hold a certificate of registration under this chapter to act as an
2222 athlete agent. A licensed attorney who acts as an athlete agent in
2323 this state is considered to be registered under this chapter and
2424 must comply with and is subject to all other provisions of this
2525 chapter.
2626 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
