77 relating to the right of a disabled veteran to obtain a certificate
88 from the chief appraiser of an appraisal district stating whether
99 the veteran would be entitled to an exemption from ad valorem
1010 taxation of property if the veteran were to acquire the property.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 11, Tax Code, is amended by
1313 adding Section 11.49 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 11.49. EXEMPTION QUALIFICATION CERTIFICATE. (a) In
1515 this section, "disabled veteran" has the meaning assigned by
1616 Section 11.22.
1717 (b) To facilitate the financing associated with the
1818 acquisition of a property, a disabled veteran, before acquiring the
1919 property, may request from the chief appraiser of the appraisal
2020 district established for the county in which the property is
2121 located a preliminary determination of whether the property if
2222 acquired by the veteran would qualify for a total or partial
2323 exemption from ad valorem taxation as a result of the veteran's
2424 status as a disabled veteran. The request must be in writing and
2525 must include the information that would be included in an
2626 application for the applicable exemption for the property. Not
2727 later than the 30th day after the date a request is submitted under
2828 this subsection, the chief appraiser shall issue a written
2929 preliminary determination for the property included in the request.
3030 A preliminary determination does not affect the granting of an
3131 exemption under this chapter.
3232 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
