| 13 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 14 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 1701.352(d), Occupations Code, is |
|---|
| 15 | 9 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 16 | 10 | | (d) A peace officer who is appointed or will be appointed to |
|---|
| 17 | 11 | | the officer's first supervisory position must receive in-service |
|---|
| 18 | 12 | | training on supervision as part of the course provided for the |
|---|
| 19 | 13 | | officer under Subsection (b) not earlier than the 12th month before |
|---|
| 20 | 14 | | the date of that appointment or later than the first anniversary of |
|---|
| 21 | 15 | | [during the 24-month period after] the date of that appointment. |

| 22 | 16 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 23 | 17 | | to an appointment made on or after the effective date of this Act. |
|---|
| 24 | 18 | | An appointment made before the effective date of this Act is |
|---|
| 25 | 19 | | governed by the law in effect on the date the appointment was made, |
|---|
| 26 | 20 | | and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
