| 6 | 6 | | relating to bailiffs in the county courts at law of Tarrant County. |

| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 25.2222, Government Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | (c) At least one bailiff shall be assigned regularly to each |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of the county courts at law of Tarrant County. |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (c-1) The judge of each respective county court at law of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Tarrant County may appoint one officer to act as bailiff of the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | judge's court. The bailiff appointed by the judge serves at the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | pleasure of the county court to which a bailiff is appointed, holds |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | office at the will of the judge of the county court to which a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | bailiff is appointed, and shall perform the duties required by the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | judge of the court to which the bailiff is appointed. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (c-2) If the judge of a county court at law of Tarrant County |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | does not appoint an officer to act as bailiff, the sheriff of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Tarrant County shall assign a bailiff for said court upon written |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | request of the judge. The bailiff assigned by the sheriff serves at |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the pleasure of the county court to which a bailiff is assigned, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | shall perform the duties required by the judge of the court to which |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the bailiff is assigned. |

| 26 | 26 | | (c-3) Upon request of a county court at law judge, the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | sheriff shall immediately assign a bailiff to the county court at |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | law to fill any temporary absence of the regularly appointed or |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | assigned bailiff. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
