9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 661, Government Code, is |
---|
11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 661.923 to read as follows: |

12 | 12 | | Sec. 661.923. LEAVE FOR REEMPLOYED VETERANS. (a) Except as |
---|
13 | 13 | | provided by Subsection (b), a state employee who is reemployed by a |
---|
14 | 14 | | state agency after military service as provided by Section 437.204 |
---|
15 | 15 | | or Chapter 613 may be granted leave to tend to matters relating to |
---|
16 | 16 | | the employee's military service or reintegration into civilian |
---|
17 | 17 | | life, including obtaining medical or mental health care and |
---|
18 | 18 | | receiving employee assistance counseling. Leave granted under this |
---|
19 | 19 | | section may not exceed 15 days each fiscal year without a deduction |
---|
20 | 20 | | in salary or loss of vacation time, sick leave, earned overtime |
---|
21 | 21 | | credit, or state compensatory time. |
---|
22 | 22 | | (b) The administrative head of a state agency may annually |
---|
23 | 23 | | grant additional days of leave described by Subsection (a) as the |
---|
24 | 24 | | administrative head determines appropriate for the employee. |
---|
25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
