8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Title 7, Government Code, is amended by adding | |
10 | 10 | Chapter 793 to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | Sec. 793.001. EXECUTION OF COMPACT. The Governor of Texas | |
12 | 12 | is directed to coordinate and develop an Interstate Compact for | |
13 | 13 | Border Security among interested states, and to seek the consent of | |
14 | 14 | Congress for the Compact. The purpose of the Compact will be for | |
15 | 15 | compacting states to engage in joint action on matters including, | |
16 | 16 | but not limited to: | |
17 | 17 | a) Detection, apprehension, detention, prosecution, | |
18 | 18 | release, and monitoring of illegal aliens. | |
19 | 19 | b) Coordination of federal, state, and local immigration | |
20 | 20 | enforcement operations. | |
21 | 21 | c) Eligibility of aliens to receive state benefits. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
23 | 23 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
24 | 24 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
25 | 25 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
26 | 26 | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
