55 AN ACT
66 relating to an interstate compact on border security and
77 immigration enforcement.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Title 7, Government Code, is amended by adding
1010 Chapter 793 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 793.001. EXECUTION OF COMPACT. The Governor of Texas
1212 is directed to coordinate and develop an Interstate Compact for
1313 Border Security among interested states, and to seek the consent of
1414 Congress for the Compact. The purpose of the Compact will be for
1515 compacting states to engage in joint action on matters including,
1616 but not limited to:
1717 a) Detection, apprehension, detention, prosecution,
1818 release, and monitoring of illegal aliens.
1919 b) Coordination of federal, state, and local immigration
2020 enforcement operations.
2121 c) Eligibility of aliens to receive state benefits.
2222 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2323 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2424 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2525 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2626 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
