LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION April 13, 2015 TO: Honorable John T. Smithee, Chair, House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:HB3426 by Peña (Relating to concurrent jurisdiction of a statutory county court with a district court in certain civil cases.), As Introduced No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend the Government Code relating to jurisdictional limits for a statutory county court in certain civil cases. Under current law, a statutory county court's jurisdiction is generally capped at $200,000 in controversy, excluding interest, statutory or punitive damages and penalties, and attorney's fees and costs. The bill would remove all exclusions, other than interest, to determine the amount of a matter in controversy.
