 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to a federal waiver to exempt public school students with
 significant cognitive disabilities from annual assessment
 requirements imposed by federal law.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Not later than January 1, 2016, the Texas
 Education Agency shall apply to the United States Department of
 Education for a waiver of the annual alternate assessment of
 students with significant cognitive disabilities required under
 the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (20 U.S.C. Section 6301 et
 seq.) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (20
 U.S.C. Section 1400 et seq.).
 SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
