9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. (a) The Department of Aging and Disability | |
11 | 11 | Services shall conduct a study on: | |
12 | 12 | (1) early detection and early intervention in cases of | |
13 | 13 | children with autism spectrum disorders, including the accurate | |
14 | 14 | diagnosis of children with autism spectrum disorders at birth; | |
15 | 15 | (2) the educational and developmental benefits of | |
16 | 16 | early diagnosis and the prompt provision of therapy to children | |
17 | 17 | diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders; and | |
18 | 18 | (3) potential legislative solutions to promote early | |
19 | 19 | diagnosis and early intervention in cases of children with autism | |
20 | 20 | spectrum disorders. | |
21 | 21 | (b) Not later than December 1, 2016, the commissioner of | |
22 | 22 | aging and disability services shall provide a report on the results | |
23 | 23 | of the study to the governor, the lieutenant governor, and the | |
24 | 24 | legislature. | |
25 | 25 | (c) This section expires September 1, 2017. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
