55 AN ACT
66 relating to the certification requirements of lifeguards and
77 swimming instructors in the state of Texas.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 65.001, Health and Safety Code, is
1010 amended to read as follows:
1111 (a) Sec. 65.001. LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION. Swimming
1212 instructors and lifeguards at public swimming pools must be
1313 certified by the American Red Cross, the Y.M.C.A., or other
1414 nationally recognized aquatic training program, in swimming
1515 instruction, first aid, CPR, and be trained in drowning risk
1616 prevention.
1717 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1818 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1919 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2020 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2121 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
