99 relating to the possible use of certain state-owned land for border
1010 security.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. EVALUATION. The General Land Office shall
1313 evaluate the possible use of state-owned land within 25 miles of the
1414 Texas-Mexico border or inside the cattle fever tick permanent
1515 quarantine line for purposes of border security. The General Land
1616 Office shall evaluate the possible use of the land:
1717 (1) as a staging area for law enforcement operations;
1818 (2) for additional facilities for the Texas National
1919 Guard; and
2020 (3) for the physical security of the Texas-Mexico
2121 border.
2222 SECTION 2. REPORT. Not later than September 1, 2016, the
2323 General Land Office shall submit a report on the results of the
2424 evaluation and any resulting recommendations to the governor, the
2525 lieutenant governor, and the members of the legislature.
2626 SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect
2727 immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members
2828 elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas
2929 Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for
3030 immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
