11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. EVALUATION. The General Land Office shall |
---|
13 | 13 | | evaluate the possible use of state-owned land within 25 miles of the |
---|
14 | 14 | | Texas-Mexico border or inside the cattle fever tick permanent |
---|
15 | 15 | | quarantine line for purposes of border security. The General Land |
---|
16 | 16 | | Office shall evaluate the possible use of the land: |
---|
17 | 17 | | (1) as a staging area for law enforcement operations; |
---|
18 | 18 | | (2) for additional facilities for the Texas National |
---|
19 | 19 | | Guard; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | (3) for the physical security of the Texas-Mexico |
---|
21 | 21 | | border. |
---|
22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. REPORT. Not later than September 1, 2016, the |
---|
23 | 23 | | General Land Office shall submit a report on the results of the |
---|
24 | 24 | | evaluation and any resulting recommendations to the governor, the |
---|
25 | 25 | | lieutenant governor, and the members of the legislature. |
---|
26 | 26 | | SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect |
---|
27 | 27 | | immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members |
---|
28 | 28 | | elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas |
---|
29 | 29 | | Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for |
---|
30 | 30 | | immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
