66 AN ACT
77 relating to an annual demographic study of each Texas House of
88 Representatives and Texas Senate district.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Chapter 468, Government Code, is amended by
1111 adding Section 468.006 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 468.006. ANNUAL DEMOGRAPHIC STUDY OF STATE HOUSE OF
1313 REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATE DISTRICTS. (a) The state demographer
1414 shall conduct an annual demographic study to determine the
1515 following information for each state house of representatives and
1616 state senate district for the current state fiscal year:
1717 (1) the average household income in the district;
1818 (2) the average education attainment level of
1919 individuals in the district;
2020 (3) the percentage of the population in the district
2121 by ethnicity;
2222 (4) the annual amount of lottery sales in the
2323 district;
2424 (5) the rate of homeownership in the district; and
2525 (6) the average age of individuals in the district.
2626 (b) Not later than September 1, the state demographer shall
2727 submit to each member of the house of representatives, each member
2828 of the senate, the speaker of the house of representatives, and the
2929 lieutenant governor a report that includes the results of the
3030 demographic study. The report must be made in writing and in a
3131 searchable electronic format that enables a user to sort the
3232 information described in Subsection (a) by category.
3333 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2016.
