66 AN ACT
77 relating to the establishment of a tuition and fee reimbursement
88 program for certain adopted children enrolled in career schools or
99 colleges.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 132, Education Code, is
1212 amended by adding Section 132.025 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 132.025. TUITION AND FEE REIMBURSEMENT FOR CERTAIN
1414 ADOPTED STUDENTS FORMERLY IN FOSTER OR OTHER RESIDENTIAL CARE. (a)
1515 In this section, "institution of higher education" has the meaning
1616 assigned by Section 61.003.
1717 (b) Using funds appropriated for that purpose, the
1818 commission, in coordination with the Texas Higher Education
1919 Coordinating Board, by rule shall establish a program under which
2020 the commission may reimburse a student for the payment of tuition
2121 and fees to a career school or college if the student would be
2222 eligible for an exemption from the payment of tuition and fees to an
2323 institution of higher education under Section 54.367.
2424 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with tuition and fees
2525 charged by a career school or college for the 2015-2016 academic
2626 year.
2727 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2828 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2929 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3030 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3131 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
