| 9 | 9 | | Interscholastic League athletic activities. |

| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 33, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 33.0836 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 33.0836. ACCESS TO UNIVERSITY INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS UNDER SUPERVISION OF TEXAS |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | JUVENILE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT. (a) The University Interscholastic |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | League shall provide students receiving educational services under |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the supervision of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department with the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | opportunity to participate in league athletic activities in the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | same manner that the league provides the opportunity to participate |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | to students enrolled in public schools. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (b) The University Interscholastic League shall enter into |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | a memorandum of understanding with the Texas Juvenile Justice |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Department regarding the policies governing: |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (1) the conditions of eligibility for students under |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the supervision of the department in league athletic activities, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | including: |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (A) age of students eligible to participate; |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (B) academic performance requirements for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | students; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | (C) standards of behavior for students; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (2) the appropriate league in which students under the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | supervision of the department will participate; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | (3) the duties of the department regarding other |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | policies of the league, including fees, insurance, and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | transportation. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
