7 | 7 | | relating to immigration visa waivers for physicians. |

8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 12.0127, Health and Safety Code, is |
---|
10 | 10 | | amended by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |

11 | 11 | | (c) To the extent allowed by federal law, the department |
---|
12 | 12 | | shall provide an equal opportunity to request a waiver of the |
---|
13 | 13 | | foreign country residence requirement for a qualified alien |
---|
14 | 14 | | physician who agrees to practice medicine in: |
---|
15 | 15 | | (1) a medically underserved area; or |
---|
16 | 16 | | (2) a health professional shortage area. |
---|
17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
18 | 18 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
19 | 19 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
20 | 20 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
21 | 21 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
