55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to immigration visa waivers for physicians.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 12.0127, Health and Safety Code, is
1010 amended by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1111 (c) To the extent allowed by federal law, the department
1212 shall provide an equal opportunity to request a waiver of the
1313 foreign country residence requirement for a qualified alien
1414 physician who agrees to practice medicine in:
1515 (1) a medically underserved area; or
1616 (2) a health professional shortage area.
1717 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1818 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1919 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2020 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2121 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
