7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 55, Occupations Code, is amended to read |
---|
9 | 9 | | as follows: |
---|
10 | 10 | | Sec. 555.002. EXEMPTION FROM PENALTY FOR FAILURE TO RENEW |
---|
11 | 11 | | LICENSE. A state agency that issues a license shall adopt rules to |
---|
12 | 12 | | exempt an individual who holds a license issued by the agency from |
---|
13 | 13 | | any increased fee or other penalty imposed by the agency for failing |
---|
14 | 14 | | to renew the license in a timely manner if the individual |
---|
15 | 15 | | establishes to license in a timely manner because the individual |
---|
16 | 16 | | was on active duty in the United States armed forces [serving |
---|
17 | 17 | | outside this state]. |

18 | 18 | | SECTION 2. Chapter 55, Occupations Code, is amended to read |
---|
19 | 19 | | as follows: |
---|
20 | 20 | | Sec. 55.003. EXTENSION OF CERTAIN DEADLINES FOR ACTIVE DUTY |
---|
21 | 21 | | MILITARY PERSONNEL. A person who holds a license, is a military |
---|
22 | 22 | | service member |
---|
23 | 23 | | [member of the state military forces or a reserve |
---|
24 | 24 | | component of the armed forces of the United States], and is ordered |
---|
25 | 25 | | to active duty by proper authority is entitled to an exemption from |
---|
26 | 26 | | [additional amount of time, equal to the total number of years or |
---|
27 | 27 | | parts of years that the person serves on active duty, to complete]: |
---|
28 | 28 | | (1) any continuing education requirements; [and] |
---|
29 | 29 | | (2) any other requirement related to the renewal of |
---|
30 | 30 | | the person's license [.]; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | (3) any fees related to license renewal. |
---|
32 | 32 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
