A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to employment of athletic coaches by school districts.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 21.003, Education Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
(d) A person who does not hold a certificate or permit
issued as provided by Subchapter B may be employed part-time as an
athletic coach by a school district. This subsection does not
authorize a person employed as an athletic coach to provide
academic instruction, other than as assigned in athletic class
periods, to students without holding an appropriate certificate or
permit issued as provided by Subchapter B.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
