44 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
55 AN ACT
66 relating to employment of athletic coaches by school districts.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Section 21.003, Education Code, is amended by
99 adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
1010 (d) A person who does not hold a certificate or permit
1111 issued as provided by Subchapter B may be employed part-time as an
1212 athletic coach by a school district. This subsection does not
1313 authorize a person employed as an athletic coach to provide
1414 academic instruction, other than as assigned in athletic class
1515 periods, to students without holding an appropriate certificate or
1616 permit issued as provided by Subchapter B.
1717 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1818 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1919 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2020 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2121 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
