7 | 7 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
8 | 8 | SECTION 1. Section 21.003, Education Code, is amended by | |
9 | 9 | adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: | |
10 | 10 | (d) A person who does not hold a certificate or permit | |
11 | 11 | issued as provided by Subchapter B may be employed part-time as an | |
12 | 12 | athletic coach by a school district. This subsection does not | |
13 | 13 | authorize a person employed as an athletic coach to provide | |
14 | 14 | academic instruction, other than as assigned in athletic class | |
15 | 15 | periods, to students without holding an appropriate certificate or | |
16 | 16 | permit issued as provided by Subchapter B. | |
17 | 17 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
18 | 18 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
19 | 19 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
20 | 20 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
21 | 21 | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
