55 AN ACT
66 relating to an optional bad weather policy for public schools.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Section 25.081, Education Code, is amended by
99 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1010 (c) The board of trustees of each school district that
1111 exceeds the full 7 hours of instructional time required by Section
1212 25.082(a) by at least one half hour daily for the full academic year
1313 may adopt a policy to credit the additional time to the number of
1414 instructional days required by Subsection (a). The excess time may
1515 be accumulated in amounts up to but not exceeding ten (10) days each
1616 year for days missed due to dangerous or extreme weather
1717 conditions. Unused accumulated days for excess instructional time
1818 shall not carry over to a school year other than the year in which
1919 the time was accumulated. After a district credits each day in
2020 accordance with this subsection, the district shall notify the
2121 commissioner in writing.
2222 SECTION 2. Section 42.005, Education Code, is amended by
2323 adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:
2424 (a-1) For any school day credited in accordance with Section
2525 25.081(c), the daily attendance shall be reported as the quotient
2626 calculated under Subsection (a)(1).
2727 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
