| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 302.0031, Labor Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amending Subsections (a) and (f) and adding Subsection (b-1) to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (a) In this section: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) "Institution[, "institution] of higher education," |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | "public junior college," "public state college," and "public |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | technical institute" have [has] the meanings [meaning] assigned by |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Section 61.003, Education Code. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (2) "Lower-division institution of higher education" |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | means a public junior college, public state college, or public |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | technical institute. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (b-1) The commission shall administer the College Credit |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | for Heroes demonstration program at each lower-division |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | institution of higher education that offers a degree program in the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | field of applied science or in a closely related field, as |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | determined by the commission in consultation with the Texas Higher |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Education Coordinating Board for purposes of this subsection. The |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | commission by rule shall establish a procedure through which a |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | lower-division institution of higher education described by this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | subsection may opt out of participating in the program. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (f) The commission shall [may] adopt rules as necessary for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the administration of this section. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
