| 11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Chapter 47, Penal Code, is amended by adding | |
| 12 | 12 | Section 47.045 to read as follows: | |
| 13 | 13 | Sec. 47.045. OPERATING SPORTS BETTING WEBSITE. (a) A | |
| 14 | 14 | person commits an offense if the person knowingly operates an | |
| 15 | 15 | Internet website that allows the user to make through use of the | |
| 16 | 16 | website a bet on the outcome of a sporting event or on participation | |
| 17 | 17 | in a competition based on the performance of the players in a | |
| 18 | 18 | sporting event or series of sporting events. | |
| 19 | 19 | (b) A person who makes a bet through use of an Internet | |
| 20 | 20 | website described by Subsection (a) commits an offense under | |
| 21 | 21 | Section 47.02(a)(1). | |
| 22 | 22 | (c) An offense under Subsection (a) is a Class A | |
| 23 | 23 | misdemeanor. | |
| 24 | 24 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
