66 AN ACT
77 relating to restrictions applicable to young hunters of
88 white-tailed deer during a special open season.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 62, Parks and Wildlife
1111 Code, is amended by adding Section 62.0165 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 62.0165. HUNTING OF WHITE-TAILED DEER DURING YOUTH
1313 WEEKEND. (a) If the commission provides a special two-day weekend
1414 open season under Section 61.058(a), the commission shall for that
1515 weekend only:
1616 (1) suspend for white-tailed deer hunting any county
1717 or regional special antler restrictions regarding an inside spread
1818 measurement between the main beams of 13 inches or more; and
1919 (2) establish a bag limit of one white-tailed deer per
2020 hunter.
2121 (b) To the extent of any conflict with Subsection (a), a
2222 hunting restriction imposed by a landowner who allows hunting on
2323 the landowner's private property prevails.
2424 SECTION 2. The Parks and Wildlife Commission shall adopt or
2525 amend rules applicable to youth hunting of white-tailed deer to
2626 comply with Section 62.0165, Parks and Wildlife Code, as added by
2727 this Act, as soon as possible, with the goal of having the new rules
2828 in place for the youth hunting weekend that is traditionally held
2929 before the start of the regular open season for white-tailed deer.
3030 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3131 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3232 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3333 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3434 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
