66 AN ACT
77 relating to the reporting requirements for a person who makes
88 direct campaign expenditures.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. The heading to Section 254.261, Election Code,
1111 is amended to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 254.261. DIRECT CAMPAIGN EXPENDITURE [EXCEEDING
1313 $100].
1414 SECTION 2. Section 254.261(a), Election Code, is amended to
1515 read as follows:
1616 (a) A person not acting in concert with another person who
1717 makes one or more direct campaign expenditures in an election from
1818 the person's own property shall comply with this chapter by
1919 reporting political contributions made to the person and direct
2020 campaign expenditures made by the person as if the person were the
2121 campaign treasurer of a general-purpose committee that does not
2222 file monthly reports under Section 254.155.
2323 SECTION 3. Section 254.261(a), Election Code, as amended by
2424 this Act, applies to the reporting of a contribution or expenditure
2525 made on or after the effective date of this Act. A contribution or
2626 expenditure made before the effective date of this Act is governed
2727 by the law in effect when the contribution or expenditure was made,
2828 and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
2929 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
