55 AN ACT
66 relating to eligibility for a barber instructor license.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1.
99 Subchapter F, Section 1601.254(b), Occupations
1010 Code, is amended to read as follows:
1111 (b) To be eligible for a barber instructor license, an
1212 applicant must:
1313 (1) be at least 18 years of age;
1414 (2) have a high school diploma or a high school
1515 equivalency certificate;
1616 (3) hold a current Class A barber certificate;
1717 (4) have [completed]:
1818 (A) completed a course consisting of 750 hours of
1919 instruction in barber courses and methods of teaching in a barber
2020 school; [or]
2121 (B) worked as a Class A barber for at least two
2222 years immediately preceding an application; or
2323 (C) completed at least one year of work
2424 experience as a licensed Class A barber and:
2525 (i) have completed 500 hours of instruction
2626 in barber courses and methods of teaching in a commission-approved
2727 training program;
2828 (ii) have completed 15 semester hours in
2929 education courses from an accredited college or university within
3030 the 10 years preceding the date of the application; or
3131 (iii) have obtained a degree in education
3232 from an accredited college or university; and
3333 (5) pass the required examination.
3434 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act to Section
3535 1601.254(b), Occupations Code, apply only to an application for a
3636 license submitted on or after the effective date of this Act. An
3737 application for a license submitted before that date is governed by
3838 the law in effect on the date the application was submitted, and the
3939 former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
4040 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
