| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 28.0024 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 28.0024. FILM SCREENING REQUIRED FOR CERTAIN STUDENTS. |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (a) Each school district shall require 8th grade and 11th grade |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | students to attend a screening of the film America: Imagine the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | World Without Her. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (b) On written request from a student's parent or person |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | standing in parental relation to the student, the school district |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | shall excuse the student from attending the screening. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (c) The commissioner shall adopt rules and procedures as |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | necessary to administer this section, including procedures to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | ensure that the film designated under this section is distributed |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | to school districts and exhibited to students in a manner that does |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | not violate copyright laws. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | school year. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
