66 AN ACT
77 relating to requiring certain public school students to attend a
88 designated film screening.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 28.0024 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 28.0024. FILM SCREENING REQUIRED FOR CERTAIN STUDENTS.
1313 (a) Each school district shall require 8th grade and 11th grade
1414 students to attend a screening of the film America: Imagine the
1515 World Without Her.
1616 (b) On written request from a student's parent or person
1717 standing in parental relation to the student, the school district
1818 shall excuse the student from attending the screening.
1919 (c) The commissioner shall adopt rules and procedures as
2020 necessary to administer this section, including procedures to
2121 ensure that the film designated under this section is distributed
2222 to school districts and exhibited to students in a manner that does
2323 not violate copyright laws.
2424 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016
2525 school year.
2626 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2727 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2828 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2929 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3030 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
