104 AN ACT
115 relating to oaths and affirmations of certain judges of municipal
126 courts.
137 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
148 SECTION 1. Section 29.005, Government Code, is amended to
159 read as follows:
1610 Sec. 29.005. TERM OF OFFICE. (a) The judge of a municipal
1711 court serves for a term of office of two years unless the
1812 municipality provides for a longer term pursuant to Section 11,
1913 Article XI, [Section 11, of the] Texas Constitution.
2014 (b) A municipal court judge who is not reappointed by the
2115 91st day following the expiration of a term of office shall, absent
2216 action by the appointing authority, continue to serve for another
2317 term of office beginning on the date the previous term of office
2418 expired.
2519 (c) A judge of a municipal court who continues to serve for
2620 another term of office under Subsection (b) may continue to perform
2721 the duties of the office without taking an additional oath or
2822 affirmation required under Section 1, Article XVI, Texas
2923 Constitution.
3024 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply to a
3125 judge of a municipal court who serves in the office before, on, or
3226 after the effective date of this Act.
3327 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
