9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 26.223, Government Code, is amended by | |
11 | 11 | amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (a-1) to read as | |
12 | 12 | follows: | |
13 | 13 | (a) If the county judge is licensed to practice law in this | |
14 | 14 | state, the [The] County Court of Jefferson County has [the general] | |
15 | 15 | jurisdiction concurrent with the County Court at Law of Jefferson | |
16 | 16 | County over all causes and proceedings, civil and criminal, [of a | |
17 | 17 | probate court and] juvenile and probate, original and appellate, | |
18 | 18 | over which by the constitution and general laws of this state county | |
19 | 19 | courts have jurisdiction [as provided by Section 26.042(b) but has | |
20 | 20 | no other civil or criminal jurisdiction]. | |
21 | 21 | (a-1) If the county judge is not licensed to practice law in | |
22 | 22 | this state, the County Court of Jefferson County has concurrent | |
23 | 23 | jurisdiction with the county courts at law in Jefferson County only | |
24 | 24 | in probate proceedings, administrations of estates, guardianship | |
25 | 25 | proceedings, mental illness proceedings, and juvenile matters as | |
26 | 26 | provided by Section 26.042(b). | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
