55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to successful completion of dual credit courses as an
88 alternative to compliance with end-of-course assessment
99 requirements.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 39.025, Education Code, is amended by
1212 adding Subsection (a-2) to read as follows:
1313 (a-2) The commissioner shall determine a method by which a
1414 student's successful completion of a dual credit course, as
1515 determined by a letter grade of at least a C, provided through an
1616 institution of higher education or a private or independent
1717 institution of higher education, as those terms are defined under
1818 Section 61.003, shall be used to satisfy the requirements
1919 concerning an end-of-course assessment instrument in an equivalent
2020 subject as prescribed by Subsection (a). A student who fails to
2121 successfully complete a dual credit course may retake the course in
2222 an effort to successfully complete the course for purposes of this
2323 subsection or may take the appropriate end-of-course assessment
2424 instrument. The commissioner shall adopt rules as necessary for the
2525 administration of this subsection.
2626 SECTION 2. Section 39.023(o), Education Code, is repealed.
2727 SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016
2828 school year.
2929 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3030 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3131 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3232 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3333 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
