88 AN ACT
99 relating to an exemption for certain law enforcement and military
1010 personnel from the requirement to complete a hunter education
1111 program; authorizing a fee.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 62.014, Parks and Wildlife Code, is
1414 amended by amending Subsection (n) and adding Subsection (o) to
1515 read as follows:
1616 (n) The following persons are exempt from any requirement to
1717 complete [the live firing portion of] a hunter education course
1818 under this section:
1919 (1) an honorably discharged veteran of the United
2020 States armed forces who has achieved a basic rifle qualification or
2121 higher[;] or
2222 [(2)] a person who is on active duty as a member of the
2323 United States armed [military] forces and has achieved a basic
2424 rifle qualification or higher;
2525 (2) [, the Texas Army National Guard, the Texas Air
2626 National Guard, or the Texas State Guard] a person who is on active
2727 duty or has previously served as a member of the Texas Army National
2828 Guard, the Texas Air National Guard, or the Texas State Guard and
2929 has achieved a basic rifle qualification or higher; or
3030 (3) a person who is serving or has previously served as
3131 a municipal police officer, sheriff, deputy sheriff, constable,
3232 deputy constable, marshal, deputy marshal, or member of the Texas
3333 Rangers or the Texas Highway Patrol.
3434 (o) In addition to any administrative fee collected under
3535 Subsection (e), the commission may charge a reasonable fee to cover
3636 the administrative costs of processing the application for a
3737 license submitted by a person described by Subsection (n). Fees
3838 collected under this subsection shall be deposited to the credit of
3939 the game, fish, and water safety account.
4040 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
4141 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
4242 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
4343 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4444 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
