7	7	relating to the training requirements for a member of the board of
8	8	trustees of a public school district.
9	9	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
10	10	SECTION 1. Section 11.159, Education Code, is amended by
11	11	amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (c) to read as
12	12	follows:
13	13	(b) A trustee must complete any training required by the
14	14	State Board of Education. The trustee must complete the hours of
15	15	training required by the State Board of Education for each year of
16	16	service. The period for completing required training for the first
17	17	year of service begins on the date the trustee took office. Each
18	18	subsequent period for completing required training begins on the
19	19	anniversary of the date the trustee took office. The minutes of the
20	20	last regular meeting of the board of trustees held during a calendar
21	21	year must reflect whether each trustee has met or is delinquent in
22	22	meeting the training required to be completed as of the date of the
23	23	meeting.
24	24	(c) If, on the 30th day before the first date a person may
25	25	file an application to be a candidate for a place on the board, a
26	26	trustee serving a term for the position for which an election is to
27	27	be held is not current on completing the training required by
28	28	Subsection (b), the board shall publish notice of the trustee's
29	29	failure to complete the required training in a newspaper of general
30	30	circulation in the district.
31	31	SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
