| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 12.101(b), Education Code, is amended to | |
| 10 | 10 | read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | (b) The State Board of Education may grant a charter for an | |
| 12 | 12 | open-enrollment charter school only to an applicant that meets any | |
| 13 | 13 | financial, governing, and operational standards adopted by the | |
| 14 | 14 | commissioner under this subchapter. [The State Board of Education | |
| 15 | 15 | may not grant a total of more than 215 charters for an | |
| 16 | 16 | open-enrollment charter school.] | |
| 17 | 17 | SECTION 2. Section 12.156(b), Education Code, is repealed. | |
| 18 | 18 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 19 | 19 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 20 | 20 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 21 | 21 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 22 | 22 | Act takes effect September 1, 2015 | |
