| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 25.081, Education Code, is amended by | |
| 10 | 10 | adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | (c) A school district may not provide student instruction in | |
| 12 | 12 | odd-numbered years on the uniform election date in November | |
| 13 | 13 | provided by Section 41.001, Election Code, or in even-numbered | |
| 14 | 14 | years on the date of the general election for state and county | |
| 15 | 15 | officers provided by Section 41.002, Election Code. A school | |
| 16 | 16 | district may choose to designate a date described by this | |
| 17 | 17 | subsection as a school holiday or a staff development day. | |
| 18 | 18 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 | |
| 19 | 19 | school year. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 21 | 21 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 22 | 22 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 23 | 23 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 24 | 24 | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
