| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Chapter 250, Local Government Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | by adding Section 250.007 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 250.007. REGULATION OF RENTAL OR LEASING OF HOUSING | |
| 13 | 13 | ACCOMMODATIONS. A municipality or county may not adopt or enforce | |
| 14 | 14 | an ordinance or regulation that prohibits an owner, lessee, | |
| 15 | 15 | sublessee, assignee, managing agent, or other person having the | |
| 16 | 16 | right to lease, sublease, or rent a housing accommodation from | |
| 17 | 17 | refusing to lease or rent the housing accommodation to a person | |
| 18 | 18 | because of the person's lawful source of income to pay rent, | |
| 19 | 19 | including a federal housing choice voucher. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 21 | 21 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 22 | 22 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 23 | 23 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 24 | 24 | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
