| 26 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 27 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 38.024(a), Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 28 | 9 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 29 | 10 | | (a) In compliance with this section, the board of trustees |
|---|
| 30 | 11 | | of a school district may obtain insurance against bodily injuries |
|---|
| 31 | 12 | | sustained by students while training for or engaging in interschool |
|---|
| 32 | 13 | | athletic competition or while engaging in school-sponsored |
|---|
| 33 | 14 | | activities [on a school campus]. |
|---|
| 34 | 15 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 |
|---|
| 35 | 16 | | school year. |
|---|
| 36 | 17 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 37 | 18 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 38 | 19 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 39 | 20 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 40 | 21 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
