55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the College Credit for Heroes program.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 302.0031, Labor Code, is amended by
1010 amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (g) to read as
1111 follows:
1212 (b) The commission shall establish and administer the
1313 College Credit for Heroes [demonstration] program to identify,
1414 develop, and support methods to maximize academic or workforce
1515 education credit awarded by institutions of higher education to
1616 veterans and military servicemembers for military experience,
1717 education, and training obtained during military service in order
1818 to expedite the entry of veterans and military servicemembers into
1919 the workforce.
2020 (g) Not later than November 1 of each year, the commission,
2121 after consultation with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating
2222 Board, shall report to the legislature and the governor on:
2323 (1) the results of any grants awarded under this
2424 section;
2525 (2) the best practices for veterans and military
2626 servicemembers to achieve maximum academic or workforce education
2727 credit at institutions of higher education for military experience,
2828 education, and training obtained during military service;
2929 (3) measures needed to facilitate the award of
3030 academic or workforce education credit by institutions of higher
3131 education for military experience, education, and training
3232 obtained during military service; and
3333 (4) other related measures needed to facilitate the
3434 entry of trained, qualified veterans and military servicemembers
3535 into the workforce.
3636 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3737 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3838 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3939 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4040 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
