| 7 | 7 | | relating to the College Credit for Heroes program. |

| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 302.0031, Labor Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (g) to read as |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (b) The commission shall establish and administer the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | College Credit for Heroes [demonstration] program to identify, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | develop, and support methods to maximize academic or workforce |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | education credit awarded by institutions of higher education to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | veterans and military servicemembers for military experience, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | education, and training obtained during military service in order |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | to expedite the entry of veterans and military servicemembers into |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the workforce. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (g) Not later than November 1 of each year, the commission, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | after consultation with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Board, shall report to the legislature and the governor on: |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (1) the results of any grants awarded under this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | section; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (2) the best practices for veterans and military |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | servicemembers to achieve maximum academic or workforce education |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | credit at institutions of higher education for military experience, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | education, and training obtained during military service; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (3) measures needed to facilitate the award of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | academic or workforce education credit by institutions of higher |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | education for military experience, education, and training |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | obtained during military service; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | (4) other related measures needed to facilitate the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | entry of trained, qualified veterans and military servicemembers |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | into the workforce. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
