66 AN ACT
77 relating to review of public school instructional materials for
88 compliance with accessibility standards.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 31, Education Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 31.0222 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 31.0222. REVIEW OF COMPLIANCE WITH ACCESSIBILITY
1313 STANDARDS. (a) In addition to any review of the content and
1414 factual accuracy of submitted instructional materials required by
1515 this chapter, the State Board of Education or the commissioner, as
1616 applicable, shall ensure that a separate review is performed of
1717 instructional materials designed to be delivered electronically to
1818 verify that the materials comply with applicable accessibility
1919 standards, including the technical standards of Section 508,
2020 Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 U.S.C. Section 794d).
2121 (b) The results of the review required by this section must
2222 be provided in conjunction with the results of the review of the
2323 content and factual accuracy.
2424 SECTION 2. Section 31.0222, Education Code, as added by
2525 this Act, applies only to instructional materials submitted to the
2626 State Board of Education or commissioner of education for review on
2727 or after the effective date of this Act.
2828 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
