77 relating to establishing an interstate voter registration
88 crosscheck program.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 18, Election Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 18.062 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 18.062. INTERSTATE VOTER REGISTRATION CROSSCHECK
1313 PROGRAM. (a) To maintain the statewide voter registration list and
1414 to prevent duplication of registration in more than one state or
1515 jurisdiction, the secretary of state shall cooperate with other
1616 states and jurisdictions to develop systems to compare voters,
1717 voter history, and voter registration lists to identify voters
1818 whose addresses have changed.
1919 (b) A system developed under this section must comply with
2020 the Voting Rights Act (52 U.S.C. Section 10101 et seq.).
2121 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2222 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2323 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2424 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2525 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
