55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to a clarification of the law governing eligibility of
88 National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing events for funding
99 under the Major Events trust fund.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 5A(a)(5), Chapter 1507 (S.B. 456), Acts
1212 of the 76th Legislature, Regular Session, 1999 (Article 5190.14,
1313 Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is amended to read as follows:
1414 (5) "Site selection organization" means:
1515 (A) the National Football League, the National
1616 Collegiate Athletic Association, the National Basketball
1717 Association, the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, the
1818 Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the
1919 International World Games Association, the National Association
2020 for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), or the United States Olympic
2121 Committee;
2222 (B) the national governing body of a sport that
2323 is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee, the National
2424 Thoroughbred Racing Association, Formula One Management Limited,
2525 or the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile;
2626 (C) the Academy of Country Music;
2727 (D) the National Cutting Horse Association; or
2828 (E) the Republican National Committee or the
2929 Democratic National Committee.
3030 SECTION 2. The amendment made by this Act to Section
3131 5A(a)(5), Chapter 1507 (S.B. 456), Acts of the 76th Legislature,
3232 Regular Session, 1999 (Article 5190.14, Vernon's Texas Civil
3333 Statutes), is intended only to clarify existing law on the
3434 eligibility of certain events to receive funding from the Major
3535 Events trust fund. Each event held on or after the effective date
3636 of that Act and the event's eligibility to receive funding from the
3737 Major Events trust fund are governed by the law as clarified by this
3838 Act.
3939 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
4040 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
4141 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
4242 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4343 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
