| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, This distinctive cocktail was first popular in the |

| 11 | 11 | | 1930s, when it was prepared with gin and grapefruit juice; after |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | World War II, when vodka became more widely imbibed in the United |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | States, cocktails made of vodka, sugar, and canned grapefruit juice |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | were regularly served at a chain of restaurants associated with bus |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | stations; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Today in the Lone Star State, this drink is often |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | made with homegrown ingredients; several popular varieties of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | sweet, red grapefruit were developed at Texas A&M University in the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 1960s and 1970s, and these tasty citruses are now a signature |

| 20 | 20 | | product of South Texas; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Vodka originated in Eastern Europe during the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | medieval era, but in recent years, the spirit has likewise taken on |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | a uniquely Texan flavor, as at least 10 independent companies |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | across the state distill upwards of 15 different brands of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | artisanal and premium vodkas; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mixed together in a potent and flavorful concoction, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Texas vodka and Texas red grapefruit juice provide a refreshing |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | respite from the cares of the day on a warm Texas spring evening in |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the Hill Country, or even on a cold winter night in Austin in the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | midst of session; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas |

| 32 | 32 | | hereby designate Texas vodka and red grapefruit juice as the |

| 33 | 33 | | official mixed drink of the 84th Legislative Session. |
