9	4		HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
10	5		WHEREAS, The dynamic community of Nocona in North Texas has
11	6		earned distinction for itself in recent years as a center for the
12	7		preservation and celebration of classic American automobiles; and
13	8		WHEREAS, Situated on the historic Chisholm Trail, Nocona is
14	9		home to impressive automotive museums created by local
15	10		entrepreneurs Pete and Barbara Horton; the dozens of vintage,
16	11		classic, and muscle cars found at the facilities are carefully
17	12		maintained by museum director Billy Dean Dobbs; and
18	13		WHEREAS, The Horton Classic Car Museum is housed in a former
19	14		Ford dealership on West Walnut Street, and it features more than 120
20	15		automobiles, including over 40 Corvettes from nearly every model
21	16		year between 1953 and 1978, as well as a variety of Packards,
22	17		Plymouths, Oldsmobiles, and a Studebaker, among other makes; and
23	18		WHEREAS, The Horton Motor Company Museum is situated a few
24	19		blocks away in the town's picturesque former Chevrolet dealership,
25	20		and it contains 16 more cars from the Hortons' collection,
26	21		including a 1965 Chevy Chevelle SS Malibu Z-16, a 1970 Plymouth
27	22		Hemi-Cuda "Tribute" Convertible, and a 1968 Shelby GT-500 Cobra
28	23		Mustang signed by legendary automobile designer Carroll Shelby; and
29	24		WHEREAS, Each May, the community proudly hosts Cruisin'
30	25		Nocona, one of the fastest growing events of its kind in the Lone
31	26		Star State; for three days, the town attracts classic cars and car
32	27		enthusiasts from across the state and region; events include a
33	28		classic car cruise through the scenic hills of the Red River Valley
34	29		and the exciting Vicari Classic Car Auction; and
35	30		WHEREAS, American automobiles of the 1950s, '60s, and '70s
36	31		embody our nation's robust sense of style, our love of adventure,
37	32		and our joy in the open road, and the community of Nocona is indeed
38	33		worthy of special distinction for its celebration of the
39	34		indomitable spirit of the classic automobile; now, therefore, be it
40	35		RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas
41	36		hereby designate the town of Nocona as the official Classic Car
42	37		Capital of Texas; and, be it further
43	38		RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
44	39		391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
45	40		until its 10th anniversary.
