| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Texas has the strongest economy in the South and |

| 7 | 7 | | leads the region in population growth, creating greater demand for |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | water; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Seawater desalination, already common in the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Caribbean, the Middle East, and elsewhere, is worth exploring as |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the state strives to meet future water needs of citizens, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | agriculture, and industry; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The future prosperity of Texas depends heavily on |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the availability of water, and it is imperative that we fully |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | understand all of our options when it comes to securing this vital |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | resource; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas |

| 18 | 18 | | hereby request the lieutenant governor and the speaker of the house |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of representatives to create a joint interim committee to study |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | seawater desalination on the Texas coast; and, be it further |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the committee's proceedings and operations be |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | governed by such general rules and policies for joint interim |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | committees as the 84th Legislature may adopt. |
