55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, Texas has the strongest economy in the South and
77 leads the region in population growth, creating greater demand for
88 water; and
99 WHEREAS, Seawater desalination, already common in the
1010 Caribbean, the Middle East, and elsewhere, is worth exploring as
1111 the state strives to meet future water needs of citizens,
1212 agriculture, and industry; and
1313 WHEREAS, The future prosperity of Texas depends heavily on
1414 the availability of water, and it is imperative that we fully
1515 understand all of our options when it comes to securing this vital
1616 resource; now, therefore, be it
1717 RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas
1818 hereby request the lieutenant governor and the speaker of the house
1919 of representatives to create a joint interim committee to study
2020 seawater desalination on the Texas coast; and, be it further
2121 RESOLVED, That the committee's proceedings and operations be
2222 governed by such general rules and policies for joint interim
2323 committees as the 84th Legislature may adopt.
