55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing the governing
77 body of a political subdivision to adopt a local option exemption
88 from ad valorem taxation of a portion, expressed as a dollar amount,
99 of the market value of real property of a business that employs
1010 honorably discharged veterans.
1111 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1313 adding Section 1-s to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 1-s. The governing body of a political subdivision may
1515 exempt from ad valorem taxation a portion, expressed as a dollar
1616 amount, of the market value of real property that a person owns and
1717 uses to operate a business that employs one or more honorably
1818 discharged veterans of the armed services of the United States. The
1919 legislature by general law may provide additional eligibility
2020 requirements for the exemption.
2121 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2222 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2015.
2323 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2424 proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the
2525 governing body of a political subdivision to adopt a local option
2626 exemption from ad valorem taxation of a portion, expressed as a
2727 dollar amount, of the market value of real property of a business
2828 that employs honorably discharged veterans."
